Linda Hüsser
Academic Education and Degrees
- MSc in Microbiology at the University of Berne in 2006.
- PhD in Immunology at the Institute of Virology and Immunology (IVI) and the University of Berne in 2011.
- PostDoc in Virology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Berne 2011-2014.
Present Professional Position
Since 2014 Linda Hüsser is BSO at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Berne and at the Swiss reference laboratory for highly infectious animal diseases (BSL3ag facility). Further, Linda Hüsser co-leads the central waste disposal and inactivation unit of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Pathobiology (DIP) at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Since 2021 she is deputy of the biosafety department of the IVI.
Extra information
Linda is experienced with biosafety and biosecurity management of diagnostic and research laboratories. This includes zoonotic agents of risk group 3, animal pathogens of risk group 4 and biosecurity policies in the veterinary sector. She is involved in teaching biosafety training courses and lectures for academic, private and governmental institutions. Linda is a board member of the Swiss Biosafety Network (SBNet).

Urs Pauli
Academic Education and Degrees
Urs Pauli studied Microbiology at the Institute of General Microbiology at the University of Bern (Switzerland), where he got his doctoral degree in 1985. He then moved to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Florida (USA), where he studied protein-DNA interactions at single nucleotide level in human cells. He returned to Switzerland in 1987 to the Institute of Veterinary Virology at the University of Bern, where he did research in the field of molecular virology (porcine tumor necrosis factor), which led to his habilitation in 1995. Also in 1995 he changed his workplace to the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health, where he was responsible for the scientific evaluation of genetically modified food stuffs. In 2003 he moved to the field of biological safety training working at the Biosafety Institute, b-safe Ltd. (Switzerland). In 2006 he bought the company and worked at b-safe Ltd. full time until 2010. In 2010 he joined the biosafety team at the Institute of Virology and Immunology IVI (part time 80%) where he worked until his retirement in spring 2022. However, he always kept his job (20%) as a Biosafety Expert and CEO of b-safe Ltd.
