Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session the attendee will be able to:
- Describe the principles of biological risk assessments, why they are completed, and the benefits of completing them
- Identify and assess significant biological risks from tasks.
- Describe techniques of risk assessment and who to involve in the process.
- Identify and describe the supporting information sources to aid in the assessment process.
- Describe what is meant by risk grouping
- Identify the main human factors and take them into account as part of the risk assessment process.
- Identify the appropriate preventative and mitigative control measures to reduce biological risk in an in vitro containment facility.
- Implement a risk control strategy in relation to reducing the risk from the tasks.
- Identify how controls can be monitored and maintained to establish safe working practices.

7.2.7 Biorisk assessment and management
The biosafety professional shall be able to carry out a risk assessment for a given situation and decide on mitigation strategies. The biosafety professional shall be able to provide guidance on biological hazard identification, risk assessment and management to project leaders, principal investigators, management and other relevant personnel.
